Celebrating One Year Since the Book Launch
Let me introduce you to two wonderful people, Lee and his mum, Tracy. Together, they have embraced the world of Reflexology and Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT), making it an integral and supportive part of their daily lives. Their story is one of, connection, consent, and the power of positive touch—a story that deserves to be shared as we celebrate one year since the launch of Reflexology for Schools: Nurturing Learning and Embracing Diverse Needs.
A Message from Tracy
“FRT Reflexology has been a great help to Lee. The rhythmic touch helps calm him down and it is regularly a part of our daily routine. Lee is autistic, he has severe learning difficulties and ADHD, and the Rainbow Relaxation Routine has had a positive effect on the whole family.
I really enjoyed attending the workshop; I found it very interesting, and I learned valuable skills. It’s been lovely to share this experience with Lee—thank you, Lorraine.”
Lee’s steps with Reflexology and FRT
Lee began his reflexology journey with a weekly timetabled therapy session during the school day back in 2012, when he was still very young. During those early therapy sessions, it was clear how much he loved it and how it had a positive impact on him both in the therapy room and that it was ongoing returning to the classroom when feedback was provided from staff. By 2015, as my work and Functional Reflex Therapy evolved, Tracy attended one of the first workshops for families, where she learned relaxation techniques for hands and feet.
From practicing on models and real hands to incorporating these skills into her daily life, Tracy has continued to use these techniques with Lee over the years. It was such a joy to hear her talk about how much he still enjoys them when I visited them in the Spring of 2024.

A Special Moment at the Book Launch
Though Lee’s story didn’t make it into my book, Reflexology for Schools, he was delighted to see his friends featured in its pages and when he discovered the book at the celebration assembly, he told his mum, “You have to buy a copy because my friends are in it!” Hearing this brought me a big smile! What a special moment, showing how much reflexology has meant to him over the years and that he wanted to see his friends in the pages.
The Many Pathways of FRT
Over the years, the FRT Rainbow Relaxation Routine has been introduced to parents, grandparents, carers, teachers and young people, it is helping them not only to relax but also understand the importance of consent and personal boundaries, as they are always given the option to say, “no, thank you if they choose not to receive the touch.”
As FRT evolved, I introduced self-care techniques ‘following the rainbow’ enabling individuals to use relaxation reflexology on their own hands while focusing on their well-being. Lee began practicing these self-care techniques in 2021, adding another dimension to his FRT journey.
In 2024, Lee moved on to college, but FRT remains a part of his life.

A Story Worth Sharing
Lee’s story may not be in the book, but it is certainly book-worthy.
It’s a story of how Reflexology and the many pathways to FRT can create meaningful connections, promote well-being, and empower individuals and families. I am deeply grateful to Tracy and Lee for allowing me to share their journey—a story that highlights the transformative power of nurturing touch.
