The National Event for Autism

The National Event for Autism

On June 14th I had the opportunity to visit The National Event for Autism held at the Excel Centre London dedicated to the two million people in the UK who live and work with autism on a daily basis. I went with my Reflexology, Functional Reflex Therapy ‘hat on’ to meet and chat with representatives/teachers and principals from some of the many schools, colleges, organisations and care homes that were able to exhibit at the event to discuss therapies that they may already offer students and clients and to introduce myself and FRT. After addressing the usual first question Reflexology… ooh what’s that? I was given time to share information about Functional Reflex Therapy and my work in school.

The idea (my vision) that there will be Reflexologists using the Functional Reflex Therapy Approach in the future working within schools and residential settings offering the many benefits of relaxation reflexology to individuals with the added value to the school system with therapists working as valued members of the multi disciplinary team throughout the UK was really well received and I have been invited to contact one school to give a presentation to a senior management team later this year. It was particularly helpful talking to the representatives at the Research Autism Centre stand and collecting information and contacts to discuss how I can put future research into action.

A very worthwhile visit to the event; I listened and learned a lot, I met some very knowledgeable, helpful people with very definite interests shown in Reflexology and the Functional Reflex Therapy Approach.
